We all know the expression “Dog is a friend of man,” but few of us have thought about the meaning of this expression. A cow gives us milk, from which we then make many different food products, a pig gives meat. The dog in this regard is clearly inferior to other animals, but it is they who are called the friend of the person. Let's see why.
The appearance of a dog next to a person
From time immemorial, people have sought to equip their lives. He domesticated wild cows, goats, sheep, so that meat and, of course, milk for food, and skins for clothes were always at hand. Then a dog appeared next to the man. She guarded herds of livestock from predators, helped herd them, thereby conquering a secluded corner in the human heart. Then shepherd dogs were bred.
Let's look at how they differ from other dog breeds. Cattle dogs are powerful, morally stable and hardy dogs. They know their job - to graze and protect cattle. Bringing slippers and newspapers and obediently giving a paw at the request of the owner is not their prerogative, but to help a person level the flock, catch and return stray animals - always, please.
Dog hunter and helper
The more civilized a person became, the higher the requirements became for herding breeds. If at first a large and strong dog was needed, then subsequently the requirements for shepherd breeds changed radically. The man began to need smart, contact, with a balanced nervous system, capable of long and hard work. Naturally, such requirements cost considerable physical and energy costs, so shepherd dogs from giants have turned into small and compact human helpers.
But let's not forget that the man was still a hunter. He spent many hours and even days hunting. Naturally, this was very expensive. Most of the animals that the man hunted were much faster than him, which greatly complicated the process of hunting. And then the man again turned for help to his faithful friend - the dog. He began to take her with him on a hunt. The dog drove the game, climbed into deep holes, swam and dive in search of the prey killed by the owner.
For different types of hunting, different breeds of dogs were bred - hounds to drive game, mink (such as dachshunds and exteriors), get game from narrow holes, huskies to hunt a large beast (they distracted their attention with barking, allowing the hunter to come closer to prey), cops - for hunting game birds. Thus, the necessary hunting dogs appeared. These breeds are characterized by the following features: speed, endurance, unquestioning obedience to the owner, high intelligence. Hunting dogs have made life easier.
Companion dogs
Along with hunting and cattle breeding, man also paid due attention to his leisure. And then companion dogs played a role. They brightened up a person’s rest, entertained him with their presence. They were very friendly, smart and extremely sweet. Nowadays, when progress has reached a high level, companion dogs have acquired a number of functions: they have become eyes for the visually impaired (guide dogs), a medicine for people suffering from mental and other diseases (canister therapy).
Summing up all of the above, we can conclude that the expression "Dog is a friend of man" fully justifies itself. It is enough just to look into the dog’s eyes, in which the loyalty accumulated over the centuries is read, loyalty and love for his older brother - Man.
